Lavalink nodes

Lavalink is the audio server most Discord music bots rely on: it finds tracks, decodes them and streams them to voice channels, so your bot does not have to. A Lavalink node from Rackyard is yours alone, on an AMD EPYC 7662 in Miami, sized by memory from 1 GB for a private bot to 8 GB for a large bot serving several shards.

About Lavalink hosting

More on plans, billing and support in the FAQ.

What is Lavalink?

Lavalink is a standalone audio server for Discord bots, written in Java. Your bot sends it instructions over a WebSocket and a REST API, and Lavalink does the heavy work of loading tracks and streaming them to Discord, which keeps the bot itself light and responsive.

How to set up a Lavalink server

Why not use a free public node?

A public node is shared with everyone who found its password. It can slow down, fill up or disappear without warning, and your bot goes quiet with it. A node of your own has only your players on it, and you control its sources and its plugins.

How much memory does a Lavalink node need?

As a guide: 1 GB for a private music bot, 2 GB for a bot in a few dozen servers, 3 GB for a bot in hundreds of servers, 4 GB for public bots using filters, 6 GB for busy public bots with many players at once, and 8 GB for large bots serving several shards.

Which Java version does Lavalink need?

Lavalink requires Java 17 or newer.

Can Lavalink play YouTube?

Lavalink’s built-in YouTube source is deprecated. Current setups turn it off and use the separate youtube-source plugin instead, configured in application.yml. It is worth checking the terms of any source your bot plays from.

Is there an uptime guarantee?

Yes. The SLA covers every paid plan, with a target of 99.9% availability each month and one free day added for every 2 hours of downtime. It covers our platform, not outages at Discord or at the sites your audio comes from.
