Discord bot hosting

Discord bots

A Discord bot has to stay connected to Discord all day, so it stops answering the moment your own computer sleeps. Rackyard keeps it running around the clock, in Node.js, Python, Bun, Java or Deno, on an AMD EPYC 7662 in Miami. Plans are sized by memory, from 512 MB for a small bot to 8 GB for a large public bot running many shards.

About Discord bot hosting

More on plans, billing and support in the FAQ.

Which languages can I use?

Node.js, Python, Bun, Java and Deno, so bots written with discord.js, discord.py, JDA and most other libraries will run.

How to host a Discord bot

How much memory does my bot need?

As a guide: 512 MB for a small bot in a few servers, 1 GB with a database or dashboard, 2 GB for a bot in hundreds of servers, 3 GB for music, AI or heavy commands, 4 GB for sharded bots in thousands of servers, 6 GB for several bots or one big public bot, and 8 GB for large public bots running many shards.

Is a server in Miami fine if my users are in India or Europe?

Yes. A bot does not talk to its users directly: their commands reach Discord first, and Discord passes them to the bot. Where your users are makes little difference to the bot, so one server can answer a community anywhere in the world.

When does a bot need sharding?

Discord requires sharding once a bot is in 2,500 servers, and each shard can carry at most 2,500. Libraries such as discord.js and discord.py can run the shards for you. Each shard keeps its own connection to Discord and uses its own memory, so a larger plan is the usual next step.

Do I need a Lavalink plan as well?

Only if your bot plays music through Lavalink. Lavalink is a separate Java service that does the audio work, so it is usually best given a server of its own.

Is there an uptime guarantee?

Yes. The SLA covers every paid plan, with a target of 99.9% availability each month and one free day added for every 2 hours of downtime. It covers our platform, not bugs in your bot or outages at Discord itself.
